Maria believes that the most important elements that should exist in a Public Art Work are the following:

  1. The work must have universal appeal for the users of the site on all levels, intellectual, emotional and spiritual.
  2. The users of the site should be considered at the planning stage.
  3. The visitors to the site must be able to interact with the art at one or more of the aforementioned levels.

Maria has worked successfully with groups of architects as part of a team as well as with architects on a one to one basis. Although much of her work is in ceramic. Maria has worked in stone and metal as well. She had two very successful residencies at the Kohler Foundry in Wisconsin where She developed long lasting outdoor patinas and fired on enamel on cast iron and brass. Many of her painted and ceramic murals, as well as sculpture in the round are included in major collections such as the Rockefeller Collection, The International Finance Corporation aka: World Bank, and the major cities and federal collections. She has incorporated the flora and fauna of various parts of the country in much of her work because the exotica of the various ecological regions help her to express, not only the spiritual connection between humans and nature, but elements of the human condition that are paralleled in nature's kingdoms. In 1990, the United States General Service Administration presented her with his highest achievement award for Art In Architecture for the design and execution of the work Bien Venida Y Vaya Con Dios (Welcome And Go With God) located at the border crossing in San Luis, Arizona
