Maria was invited by the John Michael Kohler Corporation to work in their foundry as an artist in residence in 1987 and again in 1995. There Maria completed approximately 80 works in cast iron and brass. The models were cast in a catalytic sand that was hard enough to rework with a drill. Each work, because of this remodeling as well as the different patinas, resulted in unique works. The metal sculptures were in an edition of four each.
